“I solemnly swear that I am up to good code.”

Gabriel Galeano Guerra Backend Software Developer

I build the APIs, integrations and data pipelines that keep systems in sync.

5+ years shipping production software with Python/FastAPI and PHP/Laravel. Right now I'm on the sync team at TraderSync, connecting 20+ broker APIs and reconciling trading data on AWS.

Psst — this page answers to spells. Type lumos, nox or revelio anywhere.

Chapter I

About

Most of my work lives behind the UI: REST APIs, integrations with external systems that don't always behave the way their docs say, and pipelines that move data between them without losing anything along the way.

Before writing a client I figure out how the API really works — auth, pagination, rate limits, time zones, what changes between live data and history. I keep source data as close to the original as possible and I'd rather catch an integrity problem in a validator than in a support ticket.

I'm also a trained teacher (Licenciatura en Informática), so explaining technical decisions to teammates and non-technical people is part of how I work, not an extra.

Experience

  1. TraderSync

    Backend Software Developer

    Remote

Here be timezones. Most of them have been tamed.

Sync Data team. I build and maintain the microservices that import trades from brokers and exchanges into TraderSync's trading journal.

    • Built and maintain integrations with 20+ broker and exchange APIs (Interactive Brokers, Alpaca, KuCoin, BingX, HTX, Bitunix, FXCM, Trading 212, MT4/MT5, among others), each with its own auth scheme: API keys, HMAC signatures, Basic Auth and token flows.
    • Designed async and concurrent sync jobs with asyncio, thread pools, AWS Lambda, SQS and Step Functions, handling pagination, rate limits, date-window splitting and multi-account syncs.
    • Reconcile executions coming from APIs and CSV exports with different schemas, timestamps, fees and instruments. Tracked down timezone and past-midnight date bugs in cTrader CSV imports.
    • Built validators that compare synced data against the broker's own history — match rate, executions, trade fields — to catch integrity issues before they reach users.
    • Optimized MySQL extraction queries, improving extraction performance by ~30%.
    • Ship integrations with strong test suites; the Bitunix integration went live with ~190 tests and 91% coverage.

  2. Fenix BG S.A.S.

    Full-Stack Software Developer

    Montería, Colombia

Five years, one city, more servers than I can count.

Web platforms and information systems for public and private organizations in Córdoba, Colombia — from the database to the server they run on.

    • Built backend modules for CURBA, a municipal digital-services platform used in processes for a population of 500,000+ citizens.
    • Developed a Python scraping platform to extract data from the DIAN (Colombia's tax authority), increasing internal productivity by ~30%.
    • Integrated DIAN electronic invoicing and document validation services into the company's products.
    • Built an online payments platform that contributed to a ~20% increase in company revenue.
    • Developed REST APIs with Laravel and PostgreSQL, including geographic information systems, and a FastAPI service for historical cattle prices in Colombia.
    • Ran production Linux servers (Ubuntu, Nginx, PHP-FPM, Oracle Cloud) and automated deployments with CI/CD pipelines.

Chapter III

Selected work

A few systems I've built or worked on, and the problem each one solved.

TraderSync

Multi-broker trade sync engine

Every broker exposes trades differently: different auth, pagination, rate limits, time zones and fee models. Users expect one clean journal.

  • Per-broker connectors behind a shared sync pipeline on Lambda, SQS and Step Functions.
  • Concurrent history backfills split into date windows to stay under rate limits.
  • Validation layer that measures match rate against source data before release.
Twenty-plus brokers, twenty-plus ways to say "trade".
  • Python
  • FastAPI
  • AWS
  • Terraform

Fenix BG · Public sector

CURBA municipal platform

A city government needed its paperwork and citizen processes online, for a population of 500,000+.

  • Backend modules and REST APIs for digital municipal procedures.
  • Relational data model on PostgreSQL with Laravel.
  • Deployed and operated on self-managed Linux servers.
500,000 people who no longer stand in line.
  • Laravel
  • PHP
  • PostgreSQL
  • Nginx

Fenix BG · Automation

DIAN data extraction platform

The team was pulling tax information from the DIAN portal by hand, one company at a time.

  • Python scrapers that log in, extract and structure the data automatically.
  • Removed repetitive manual work — ~30% more internal productivity.
  • Later extended with electronic invoicing validation against DIAN services.
The portal never saw it coming.
  • Python
  • Web scraping
  • PostgreSQL

Fenix BG · Fintech

Online payments platform

Customers could only pay in person, which slowed collections.

  • Online payment flow integrated with the company's existing systems.
  • Contributed to a ~20% increase in company revenue.
  • Laravel
  • PHP
  • MySQL

Independent project

School management system

A school needed one place for admins, coordinators, teachers, students and parents — with a trail of who changed what.

  • Laravel 12 app with role-based access for five user types.
  • Audit log with Spatie Activity Log; SMS and WhatsApp notifications via Twilio.
  • CI/CD with safe migrations, rollback strategy and Discord deploy alerts.
  • Laravel 12
  • PHP 8.2
  • Twilio
  • CI/CD

Migozz

Social platform backend & integrations

A creator platform needed user verification and third-party integrations that just work.

  • Email OTP verification with AWS SES, including DNS and domain setup.
  • Spotify integration and backend services on Google Cloud Run.
  • Researched Instagram/Meta Graph API access for Business and Creator accounts.
  • Cloud Run
  • AWS SES
  • Flutter
  • REST APIs

The Unbreakable Vows

How I work

I

Read the API before writing the client

I test auth, pagination, rate limits and edge cases first. That research decides the design — including when Step Functions is worth it and when a simpler job is enough.

II

Keep source data honest

I store what the provider returns as it came, and normalize later. Early normalization is where subtle data bugs hide.

III

Validate before production

Integration tests and validators that compare my output against the source. On recent integrations that meant 90%+ coverage.

IV

AI agents, with a human in the loop

I use Claude Code and Codex for scoped tasks inside a normal engineering flow: small diffs, reviewed by me, tested before merge, without wasting context or tokens.

Chapter V
